BIRTH STORY: INA MAY GASKIN AND THE FARM MIDWIVES
DVD and Online Release on April 30th —in time for Mother’s Day!
Following a theatrical release in over 20 cities, the award winning, independent documentary film BIRTH STORY about legendary midwife Ina May Gaskin will be released on April 30th, 2013 on DVD, iTunes, and streaming & download via the filmmakers own website. Pregnant women and parents, natural birth advocates, birth professionals and anyone who has been born will be inspired!
BIRTH STORY captures a spirited group of women who taught themselves how to deliver babies on a 1970s hippie commune, rescued modern midwifery from extinction, and changed the way a generation thought about childbirth. Today, as 1/3 of all U.S. babies are born via C-section, The Farm has a rate below 2%. The film not only captures the unique sisterhood at The Farm Clinic, it also shows childbirth the way most people have never seen it–unadorned, unabashed, and awe-inspiring.Ina May Gaskin, CPM, has been called “the most famous midwife in the world,” is the founder and director of The Farm Midwifery Center in Tennessee, and is the author of four books, including the wildly popular Spiritual Midwifery and Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth, which have been valuable resources to generations of women.
” A disarming example of documentary filmmaking that stakes out an opinion with plain-spoken, commonsensical wisdom” – Variety
“…a granola ode to natural childbirth that makes you want to hop into a tub of warm water and start pushing.” – New York Times
” A fascinating history lesson and a raucous celebration of life…you’ll shed tears of joy at the sight of babies being born with a sense of wonder, awe, and joy.” – KCRW

I saw this movie right when it first came out. I cried, laughed, and was empowered even more than when I walked into the theater. This is an awesome documentary that you do not want to miss out on seeing.
