Is this not the most important thing in your life?

In my opinion, the decisions you make during your pregnancy, those you make in regards to labor and delivery, and then, the immediate postpartum phase are some of the most important decisions in your life and YOUR CHILD’S life.

During my past few years of specifically working with pregnant women and couples (hundreds), I often come across the couples in which it is their first pregnancy.

I’m excited! They are excited! Everyone is excited!

However, I am quickly taken back when I hear that the woman and/or couple is going to take all recommendations from their sister the accountant or lawyer friend that just had a baby. This means they chose to see the same care provider because it’s covered by insurance. They decided to not hire a doula because so-and-so didn’t use one and they had a “healthy” baby. Nothing against accountants or lawyers or even your friend’s decisions, but they are not the experts in this particular field. They have been to one birth, maybe two, while experts in this field see this EVERY DAY!

In cultures all over the world, women assist women throughout pregnancy and in birthing. In our society, we lost a bit of that community feel with the industrial boom and all the new wave technology. But, I believe in the comeback of a community.

It takes a village to raise a child and SUPPORT the new mother.

There are numerous. And, I repeat numerous passionate women just in the Los Angeles area that are here to serve you new mothers-to-be. These passionate women want you to have magical empowering birth. Some of them do it because they are called to this work, like myself. Some of these women do it because they had a negative experience and never want a woman to go through what they went through. And, some of the women do it because they had the most amazing birth ever, and they want every woman to be able to feel how high they felt.

In the Los Angeles area, I know many of these women personally. I know that they would do this work for free if they could because they care that much. For all the women (and Brian), that work with BirthFIT, they do it because they want to change the face of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in our society. Out of all of the birth educators and workers, no one does this to make money. Everyone does it because they care deep down inside.

All of these birth educators and workers, including BirthFIT, want you to know that pregnancy and birth don’t have to be a certain way. We all want you to know that you have options. This is YOUR world!

Please, please, please reach out to those experts in your area. Don’t ever let money be the issue because many of these passionate birth workers will offer a payment plan or options.

Make decisions out of love and not fear.

-Lindsey Mathews, DC

"There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to loves others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life." - John Lennon
